Curious about what to expect when venturing into a clothing-optional, natural hot springs resort? Perfect because I will answer all of your questions based on my own various experiences on my own trips to Orvis. The best part? You can leave your pants at home!

Take yourself on a journey through this loving oasis of relaxation and healing, where the majestic mountain scenery of Colorado serves as a backdrop to an unforgettable experience.

About Orvis Hot Springs

At Orvis Hot Springs, you’ll find yourself immersed in the soothing embrace of healing and beneficial sulfur water. The resort boasts ten different unique pools and ponds, each with its own charm and temperature, providing a delightful contrast to the crisp winter air.

Imagine soaking away your worries in the midst of snow-capped peaks, finding solace and rejuvenation in the embrace of nature’s warm water embrace.

Beyond the tranquil ambiance and the healing waters, Orvis Hot Springs offers a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals in a clothing-optional setting. The resort is fun for all ages, and kids are welcome to enjoy the pools alongside their parents. However, if you’re looking for a full, uninterrupted relaxing experience, I recommend leaving the little ones at home. This allows you to fully immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere and find complete tranquility.

Please note that for privacy NO electronics including phones and computers are allowed in the clothing optional Hot Springs but they are allowed in the tent areas or in the privacy of your own room.

Tent camping and accommodation are available but with limited space.

The Hot Springs and Pools

All the ponds and pools I’ve listed here are outdoors and all of the pools are natural lithium water, never heated nor treated in any way. They can also vary in temperature due to the weather.

The Pond

This is the main pool and the largest and deepest on site. The Pond is five feet deep surrounded by a redwood deck and lined with natural rock and boulders. It is an average temperature of 100 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit. Attached to the Pond is a small plunge pool with cooler water, offering a refreshing dip to take a break from the heat. I spend a lot of time in this pool when I visit Orvis.

Island Pond

This pond is 2 feet deep with a gorgeous rock waterfall fountain. It is about 127 degrees and is fed by crater water. A great shallow pond to lounge in and warm up.

Smokers Pond

The only pond where cannabis smoking is allowed. This small hot tub like pool features a rock waterfall and is about 103-107 degrees.

Lobster Pot

Now I love a hot hot bath or hot hot jacuzzi but the lobster pot is true to its name, it is boiling hot! I think I did one dip in and out during my many times at Orvis. This is the hottest tub in Orvis which is usually between 108 and 114 degrees. The lobster Pot is also near the Cold Plunge and the Sauna.

Cold Plunge

True to its name it is the ultimate cool off point. Conveniently next to the sauna, this pool has a chilly temperature of 62 degrees.

North Pond

I don’t remember this pond on my visits so I think it is newer. It is 4 feet deep with an average temp of 100 degrees.

Watsu Pool

I did not get the pleasure yet of indulging in the Watsu Pool because it is a new addition to Orvis. It was specifically designed for Watsu massage and is a designated quiet area for relaxation.

Indoor Hot Tubs

The indoor hot tubs are a must! Completely private with a small window for scenic views. There are only 2 and they are first come first serve. It is newly cleaned every morning so go ahead and indulge in some private massage with your partner. These private hot tubs are available at no extra charge.

The indoor pool which requires bathing suits was a hard pass for me. I was glorifying in my nudity and I didn’t see the point of stopping into this pool when there are so many other amazing clothing-optional pools.

Accomadations at Orvis

For those seeking a true retreat, consider staying overnight to reap the full benefits of this natural sanctuary. All lodging and camping guests enjoy 24-hour access to the hot springs, allowing you to indulge in the healing powers of the water at any time.

Picture yourself under the stars, completely at ease, in your birthday suit, soaking in the enchanting hot springs pools.

For accommodations, Orvis Hot Springs offers a limited number of rooms, ensuring an intimate and charming atmosphere reminiscent of a bed and breakfast. With only six rooms available, it’s essential to make your reservation well in advance.

Please note that while kids of any age can use a day pass to enter the Hot Springs children under 2 are not allowed to stay in the rooms. This makes sense to me because the rooms are all very close together.

The rooms also come with large oversized fluffy robes in which you can explore the grounds in. Orvis does require that when in the interior accommodation, the community kitchen, and main office you wear the robes indoors but the grounds are all nude optional.

Camping

Alternatively, if you prefer a more rustic experience, tent camping is available, where you can bring your own tent and camp under the starlit sky.

Camping for RVs, tents, or vehicles starts at $60 per person per night with children under 3 years of age camp for free. The Orvis camping experience is perfect for summer and for your nature-loving clan.

However, I highly recommend opting for one of their cozy rooms for a truly comfortable and memorable stay.

Indulge in The Full Spa Experience

On-site, you’ll also find a sauna and darling yurts with professionals offering massages, adding an extra layer of relaxation to your stay. Imagine unwinding after a day of soaking in the hot springs with a soothing massage, melting away any remaining tension and leaving you feeling utterly blissful.

Now you can even book a CBD oil massage which has added inflammatory healing properties. This massage is especially beneficial for those suffering from chronic pain and can help alleviate stress and anxiety.

I can contest that the yurt massage is absolutely worth it. I booked a couples massage in the yurt with my husband and it was amazing. Remember to book in advance.

Extras

Additionally, Orvis Hot Springs is located near a dispensary, so you can take advantage of Colorado’s recreational weed legality. So, if you’re looking to enhance your relaxation experience, you can easily do so in the privacy of your room or while soaking in the Smokers Pond, allowing you to truly zone out and soothe under the stars all night. I highly recommend it but know your limits.

However it is important to remember Orvis does not allow alcohol, glass bottles, or smoking in the Hot Springs (with the exception of the “Smokers Pond” ) but does allow you to partake in the privacy of your own room. Loudness and obnoxious behavior will not be tolerated and Orvis personally does not recommend drinking or smoking before using the pools.

Rules

The clothing-optional area is completely fenced off and private and the other areas require a robe to be worn. The rules are very much common sense. Treat others with respect. People are trying to relax this is not a party establishment so be respectful of your noise level. Enjoy your time in the buff.

No cameras or picture taking allowed. Bathing suits are required in the indoor pool. No alcohol or smoking on the grounds (with the exception of the smoker’s pond.), but you can enjoy your glass of wine in your room.

Pets are only allowed in the campground area. If staying in the lodging and using the community kitchen you need to clean up after yourself.

The rules every time I have personally visited never hindered my experience and always have made sense to me.

For those traveling from Utah, this hidden gem is worth the scenic drive from Moab. The journey itself kicks off the adventure, as you wind your way along the river and through mountain landscapes, setting the stage for the serenity that awaits you at Orvis Hot Springs.
