This iconic dish combines crispiness with creamy goodness. Baked to golden perfection in your trusty casserole dish, this recipe is a Thanksgiving and Christmas must-have. This Green Bean Casserole Recipe is the epitome of holiday comfort food.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of fresh or frozen green beans, trimmed and cut
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 1/3 cups French’s Crispy Fried Onions
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt, to taste (Remember the soup and onion are naturally salty.)

TIP: Skip the canned green beans because they can be mushy —use frozen or fresh green beans for that perfect crunch.

Instructions:

1. Preheat and Prepare:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease your favorite casserole dish lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking.

2. Blanch the Green Beans:

  • If you’re using fresh green beans, bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 2-3 minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender.
  • If you’re using frozen green beans, thaw them according to the package instructions.

3. Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup, milk, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it’s well blended and slightly thickened.

4. Assemble the Casserole:

  • In your prepared casserole dish, combine the blanched green beans and the mushroom soup mixture. Gently stir until the green beans are well coated.

5. Bake and Add the French’s Crunch:

  • Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the mixture is hot and bubbling.
  • While the casserole is baking, toss French’s Crispy Fried Onions with just a tiny bit of olive oil in a separate bowl. This will enhance their crispiness during baking.

6. Top and Bake Again:

  • After 25 minutes of baking, remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the crispy onion mixture evenly over the top.
  • Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes or until the onions are golden brown and crispy.

7. Serve and Enjoy:

  • Once out of the oven, let your Classic Green Bean Casserole cool for a minute or two before serving. This classic side dish is easy to make and a must-have at your Thanksgiving table!
