Bunny by Mona Awad

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: A darkly funny, seductively strange novel about a lonely graduate student drawn into a clique of rich girls who seem to move and speak as one.

My Review, 3 Stars

I liked the characters Sam and Ava, I thought the story was really unique and original which is hard to do these days.
I would have rated it a 4 except in the middle it was a bit too vague with the drugged-up blurriness to the point where I had trouble following the story and was kind of lost with what was happening. I know it was intentional but a little too mysterious. Otherwise, I really enjoyed it!

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

Venture into a labyrinthine house that defies the laws of physics in this deranged masterpiece. With footnotes, colored text, and mind-bending typography, it’s a literary experiment like no other.

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: A young family moves into a small home on Ash Tree Lane where they discover something is terribly wrong: their house is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

I have not had the pleasure of reading this book YET. It is actually on my bookshelf.

The God of Endings by Jacqueline Holland

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: By turns suspenseful and enchanting, this breathtaking first novel weaves a story of love, family, history, and myth as seen through the eyes of one immortal woman.

My Review, 4 Stars

A vampire book that skips through centuries. The characters are so lovable and they struggle so dearly. They come so far from beginning to end because this is a lengthy book. It has everything! It reads part historical fiction and part modern fiction. It has a great mystery, it has historical events, it has beautiful characters, it has a vampire story, it has a modern telling, and it is really beautifully written not fluffy at all! Think the opposite of Twilight. Collette just wants to be a mama. My ultimate takeaway from this gorgeous book. It isn’t what you think! Give it a try, I highly recommend it.

The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks

Enter the twisted mind of a teenager named Frank as he engages in bizarre rituals and uncovers shocking family secrets. This book is not for the faint of heart.

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: Frank, no ordinary sixteen-year-old, lives with his father outside a remote Scottish village. Their life is, to say the least, unconventional. Frank’s mother abandoned them years ago: his elder brother Eric is confined to a psychiatric hospital; and his father measures out his eccentricities on an imperial scale.

I will honestly say I’m intrigued and I will update you with my review once I’ve read it.

Unspeakable Things by Jess Lourey

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: Inspired by a terrifying true story from the author’s hometown, a heart-pounding novel of suspense about a small Minnesota community where nothing is as quiet—or as safe—as it seems.

My Review, 5 Stars

This book started out a little slow for me although I’ve been reading a lot and maybe I’ve gotten a bit of burnout. The middle and end completely turned things around for me. This is a really good book if you like the disturbing. It truly keeps you guessing to the very end and the end has a really interesting twist that makes for a very ironic ending.
I liked that the book is told by a girl who is 13 and it’s from her perspective. It’s based on true events which makes this book very sinister. I found the story horribly fascinating. Often times I was at the edge of my seat and urging myself to read faster. It’s about a small-town mystery. A serial rapist on the prowl for young boys… who is the mad man… and who will he take next……
The ending was like wow… I know this book will stay with me for ages.

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn

Meet the Binewski family, a cast of circus freaks and genetically altered oddities in this disturbingly beautiful tale of love, ambition, and madness.

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: The story of the Binewskis, a carny family whose mater- and paterfamilias set out ― with the help of amphetamine, arsenic, and radioisotopes ― to breed their own exhibit of human oddities.

Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: Such wonderful children. Such a beautiful mother. Such a lovely house. Such endless terror! It wasn’t that she didn’t love her children. She did. But there was a fortune at stake—a fortune that would assure their later happiness if she could keep the children a secret from her dying father. So she and her mother hid her darlings away in an unused attic. Just for a little while. But the brutal days swelled into agonizing years.

YOU by Caroline Kepnes

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man.

My Review, 2 Stars

Now, do not let my review deter you from trying this book, decide for yourself. For one I read it ages ago. I think my biggest complaint at the time was that I was expecting something more paranormal and sinister and that I found it a bit predictable.

Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace

This doorstopper of a novel is a rollercoaster of humor, tragedy, and footnotes. Dive into the bizarre world of tennis, addiction, and a mysterious video that might be the key to everything.

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: Set in an addicts’ halfway house and a tennis academy, and featuring the most endearingly screwed-up family to come along in recent fiction, Infinite Jest explores essential questions about what entertainment is and why it has come to so dominate our lives.

My Review,

I started this book but then thought to myself.. nah. It is over 1,000 pages, was written in 1996, and has an unconventional writing style that drones on and on. This just wasn’t for me.

We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver

purchase the Kindle, paperback, or hardcover on Amazon

About The Book: Motherhood gone awry. (Yeah, that is all I’m saying. Go into it blind!)
