Although it is much easier, you do not need a shaved ice machine to make snow cones at home. Here are a few different methods for crushing ice without a shaved ice machine. Sure it is not going to be that shaved ice consistency but it will still be really really good.

Ingredients
- 2 cups of sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1 package of Koolaid

This is meant to make the syrup. This makes about 1 cup of syrup. If you want to do 3 different flavors just cut the recipe in half so you don’t have so much of each flavor.
- Ice
- Ziplock bag
- Mallet and rolling pin or blender

Make the Syrup
Stir sugar and water together in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in the Kool-aid mix.
Allow to cool, then store in a squirt bottle for pouring.

How to Shave The Ice
Freeze water in a ziplock bag about half full. Once the water turns to ice, place it on the counter and use a rolling pin to break it up, rolling back and forth till you get the desired consistency. If needed you can try using a blender or food processor.
